Energy Healing Richmond VA

Energy Healing

Many traditional cultures as well as religions have recognized that a gentle touch is soothing to those who are ill. Healing the sick was a central part of Jesus’ ministry and of the early Christian church. The gospels are full of stories about Jesus healing the sick. More recently, studies conducted at the University of Miami’s Touch Research Institute have proven that touch is an essential part of human health. Skin is the human body’s largest organ, containing millions of receptors that send messages through nerve fibers to the brain. A simple touch has been shown to reduce a person’s heart rate, lower blood pressure, and reduce stress levels. Today Healing Touch, Reiki, and a number of other energy modalities are used in both medical settings and private practices to reduce stress, enhance wound healing, reduce post-surgical pain and trigger a sense of relaxation.

Charlene utilizes a number of "energy medicine" techniques including Healing Touch, Reiki, Chakra Clearing, Energy Medicine, and Sound Healing. She is a Reiki Teacher/ Master and a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner.

Reiki, Ancient Healing Technique Richmond VA

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced “Ray-key”) is an ancient healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands". Current research suggests that energy does extend throughout and beyond the physical body, and that disruptions or imbalances in the flow correlate to illness. This healing art addresses these imbalances to support your good health and well-being.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". Throughout the ages, mystics and medicine people have recognized that human beings are surrounded and permeated by energy, which sustains and balances life. Although it is not dependent on a belief system, it can be an excellent tool for spiritual growth. Reiki practitioners transmit and receive universal life force energy.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

People have used Reiki to help treat everything from stress to heart disease, although there are relatively few scientific studies on its effectiveness at this time. Reiki is not meant to be used in lieu of traditional medical care. It is a helpful alternative for controlling side effects of other treatments, reducing pain, and speeding the healing process. People use Reiki for a variety of health conditions, such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Stress
  • Recovery from surgery
  • Side effects of chemotherapy or radiation for cancer
  • Improving immunity
  • Sense of well-being and/or spirituality
  • Enhancing the sense of peace

Reiki can also be used preventively to reduce stress and tension. Some people include regular Reiki sessions as part of their overall wellness regimen.

What is a Reiki session like?

A typical Reiki session lasts approximately 60 minutes. You recline fully clothed and comfortable on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner begins by placing their hands in several positions that cover your legs, head, shoulders, arms, stomach, and back. The practitioner holds each position from two to five minutes and then may target the specific areas of the body where you are experiencing pain or discomfort. While performing these positions, the practitioner may not actually touch you, but may simply hold their hands an inch or two above your body.

Reiki is usually done while you lie down on a table. After a Reiki session, some people describe experiencing a glowing or radiance, as well as feelings of peace and well-being. Others feel nothing at all, while still others experience profound shifts. At the very least, expect to feel extremely relaxed - you may even fall asleep.

How do I become a Reiki Practitioner?

Being attuned to Reiki is a beautiful and highly personal experience. Once attuned you continue to carry the healing energies for the rest of your life.

Usui Reiki Level I Class:
The Reiki Level I training classes occur either on two consecutive days or on 1 weekend day. The class includes the energetic attunements or initiations for Level I, the history of Reiki, and teaching of the basic hand positions for self-treatment and treatment of others.
Students find that the energetic attunements enlarge their capacity to channel healing energy. The attunements may also be a form of initiation--an opening up to a larger level of awareness of who you are as a soul.
Usui Reiki Level II Class:
The Reiki Level II training also occurs either on two consecutive days or on 1 weekend day. The Level II class includes the attunements, learning the techniques and symbols that activate energy, working with subconscious patterns, and sending healing energy at a distance.
Usui Reiki Level III – The Master / Teacher Class:
In this class we cover the transition of the student from healer to master level healer/ teacher. Students will be guided through sample attunement sessions until they feel comfortable with the process. A master level attunement will be provided and the ability to pass attunements will be included in this class.
